During the course of the week, I held a poll on my Instagram Stories (@arumlilea) asking if you’d like to see a blog post detailing my daily routine. An overwhelming majority of 85% of you voted YES! Needless to say, I listen when you speak and so, here it is! Here is a breakdown of a typical day in the life of me:
My alarm goes off at 5:20 am every morning. I love waking up early. I always have. I feel like you can take advantage of your whole day if you do. Once I’m up, I spring to life with a cup of tea and pack my breakfast (overnight oats), lunch and mid-meal snacks (usually fresh fruit) for the day. I find it really important to make sure that I have enough good quality food with me to keep my energy levels up all day long. To save time in the mornings, I always make sure I cook extra for dinner the night before so that I can use it for lunch the next day. I also prep for the gym and pack whatever I need in terms of clothing, makeup, etc. into my gym bag so that I’m organised for the workday.
Last year I listened to one of Tony Robbin’s podcasts in which he spoke about the “power hour”. In essence, the moment you wake up, you should put on your running shoes, plug in your headphones, pump up your favourite music and get active. Whether this means going on a slow walk or a fast-paced run, alone or with someone else – that’s entirely up to you. The idea is to move and to use the time for yourself to collect your thoughts and set the tone for the rest of your day. I love this idea! I cannot express how I’ve come to look forward to my power hour each morning! Not only am I training my mind, but my body too and both are reaping the benefits. I arrive at the gym at around 6:30 am for my gym routine which is roughly an hour long each morning. If you’d like me to take you through my weekly training schedule, let me know in the comments below and I’d be happy to do a post dedicated to that. Once I’m feeling good and I’ve had a great training session, I’ll hit the showers and get dressed for work.
For those of you that didn’t know, I’m a full-time attorney acting as a legal advisor in a media company. I arrive at work at 8:30 am and I leave around 5:30 pm. The travelling time between work and home can be terrible, so I always make sure that I have a book downloaded on Audible for me to listen to on the way home. I really love that App! Once I’m home, around 6:30 pm, I’ll organise dinner. I love Jessica Sepel’s recipes for dinner because they are healthy, tasty and so easy to make. Once we’ve had dinner, we’ll usually watch an episode of something on Netflix or Showmax. We love watching Dinner Date on BBC – does anyone else watch it?
Between 20:00 pm and 22:00 pm, you can find me editing pictures, blog posts or my YouTube videos as well as catching up on my emails for the blog that I’ve missed throughout the day. Sometimes I do this while listening to music, other times I’ll do it while watching Gilmore Girls. After that, it’s time to get ready for bed. I’ve made it a habit to read before I go to bed every night. I could quite easily spend my entire day reading so while that’s not a possibility, it is great to enjoy the last half an hour or so of the day this way before switching off the light and falling fast asleep.
So that’s my daily routine for a pretty usual day in my life. I don’t know that it’s very different to anyone else’s average day but I do find that having a routine is essential to getting things done, seeing results and feeling content with the level of order in your life. I am so glad that I’m actively making time to go to the gym each day, do a bit of reading and eating great food and it’s all thanks to the organisation that I’ve put in place by having a well-oiled routine. Let me know what your daily routine is in the comments down below and whether you have any tips for a great routine. I’m always looking for points to make mine work even better!
