Another year older, another year wiser! Today is my birthday and it’s been making me think of how fast time seems to be going at the moment. I think that the past year, I’ve been acting mechanically trying to push through the pandemic, stay on top of work in our new work-from-home norm, do daily workouts in, try focus on self improvement while social distancing and so it goes. Unfortunately there wasn’t much in terms of travel moments, big celebrations, concerts etc, but that’s the same for everyone. On the otherhand, I was reminded of so many beautiful things that I had taken for granted and that I now appreciate more than ever.
Over the past year I’ve enjoyed such simple things like lighting my scented candles, calling friends, walking our dog, playing my piano and reading a great book. The quiet contentment that these things bring me is so surreal. I’ve been practising more yoga and finding that working on it daily can alleviate migraines which is such an incredible victory because I was really, really struggling with migraines for months on end.
Looking forward, I don’t really know what the next year will bring but I am so happy to be in Hartbeespoort this year. It was such an unexpected, last-minute move but I’ve fallen completely in love with this beautiful place so I hope that I can really use this year to make the most of living somewhere that I would otherwise never have moved to. I anticipate lots of hikes and plenty time looking out at the mountains and the water. It’s simply stunning.
I’m planning on doing another post-graduate course in Cyber Law this year which I am so excited about! I absolutely love learning. Since doing my LLB, I did an LLM and also studied for my board exams and the notary public exam but it’s been a while since then so I’m really looking forward to getting back into study mode.
That being said, this year doesn’t have too many hard and fast rules so who knows where this road will take me but I’m ready for an adventure. Regardless of what happens, I hope it will be a healthy and very happy year ahead.
