Goodness gracious, have I truly not posted on my blog since January? That’s a little alarming. Life has been really busy so I guess I’ve been sharing life updates on Instagram only this year. Time to turn that around! If you didn’t already know, I’m currently pregnant with my Baby #2! I’m actually thirty weeks pregnant so I have plenty to update you on.
We had just finished with all December’s festivities including Teddy’s 1st birthday party, his actual birthday on the 20th, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, etc. I had such bad cramps and bloating on 6 January and when my period didn’t arrive on 7 January, I took a pregnancy test and, lone behold, Baby #2 was on his way! We were so surprised but delighted that our little family was expanding once again.
The first trimester was actually easier than last time because I think I only experienced nausea about 2 or 3 times and only for about 10 minutes or so. No headaches, food aversions this time and I didn’t experience that off-putting heightened sense of smell either which was good. I was, however, extremely tired. This was the same as when I was pregnant with Teddy. By midday, I could barely keep my eyes open and this carried on into the first weeks of my second trimester too. This probably explains my lack of blog posts because, wow, any spare moment I had I would go climb on my bed and take a nap. We travelled to Paternoster for our wedding anniversary at the end of February and I probably slept most of that trip!
As we progressed into the second trimester, I slowly started gaining more energy. Thank goodness for this because Teddy had a terrible allergic reaction and viral infection in April which involved a hospital admission which was terrifying. That felt like the longest week of my life. We also had our gender reveal in April which was so much fun! We already knew from early on that we were expecting another little boy but we kept all our friends and family in the dark and it was so much fun to surprise them. Almost everyone was anticipating a girl. Our little man’s kicks has been getting stronger and stronger and its so reassuring feeling him move all day. I love it!
Towards the end of my second trimester, my energy started fading again and I’ve been pretty exhausted the past couple weeks. I’ve been avoiding naps but by 8pm I’ve been ready for bed. Another reason for lack of blog posts. Before the end of the trimester we snuck in a babymoon to the Maldives which was truly out of this world (more on that to come!) and I’m so glad we did. We’ll have those memories as just the three of us forever. I was bumping all over that island and it was so special.
I’m now in my third trimester and it’s surreal to look back and see how quick this pregnancy has gone. I’m trying my hardest to stay present and enjoy the last few weeks of my baby bump and this beautiful experience. Someone pointed out that you may only be pregnant for 20 months of your life and that really made me think that stressing about work and all these other things that distract you from appreciating the present are a complete waste of time. Right now, I just want to focus on my Teddy and this pregnancy and enjoy every second. Unfortunately the lack of energy and a spike in headaches has made that a little challenging too. I was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes this past week which was upsetting but hopefully we can have that controlled within the next week or so. I am already injecting blood thinners twice a day so hopefully I don’t need insulin as well.
Slowly we are starting to prep for the arrival of our second baby boy. It feels more and more real as each day goes by. It definitely makes me emotional. I look Teddy and my heart swells. When I’m away from him, all I do is think about him. To think that I’m lucky enough to have two boys to love fills my heart to the brim. Having created these beautiful children with my incredible husband is the biggest blessing I could ever have wished for.
Ryan took these photos when I was 20 weeks pregnant and my bump has definitely grown quite substantially since then so I will need to share some updated pictures soon. I also want to share a midyear book review post. I have also filmed a few vlogs which you can watch here. I still have more to upload, I just need some energy to edit and upload them but do keep an eye out! You can also follow for more updates on my Instagram because I’m pretty active there. For more info from my first pregnancy, you can find all those beautiful posts here. Let me know what else you would like to see and I’ll try make it happen in the next few weeks 🙂
