My first love will always be travelling. I was introduced to the concept by my parents at a very early age and I’ve been infected with the travel bug ever since. I’ve travelled to over 20 countries and five different continents and I’m exploring more and more locally within our boarder too. I’m constantly researching new places to visit and adding travel plans to my never-ending list of wanderlust. To travel is to live in my opinion but travel = expensive too! In order to fund my travels I’ve learnt many tips along the way to save my money as much as possible. December is going to be upon us before we know it and with Christmas being expensive before you’ve even thought of planning a trip away for a much needed break you might already be feeling the financial pinch. To help you save for your dream holiday whether it be local or international I’ve decided to share a couple but very effective tips to help you reach your destination.
How To Save For Your Dream Holiday
1 Limit your shopping to sales
So many stores have sales happening a lot more frequently than the traditional summer or winter sales. You can scoop up such great bargains on Forever New, Topshop and Zara items purely by looking for their sales items in store. You can still have an incredible wardrobe when you’re saving, you need only to be wise about it.
2 Stop eating out
If you’re anything like me trying new restaurants can be so exciting and the highlight of my week. When I’m getting serious about saving, though, I cut back on the amount of dinners eat out during the month. I’ll limit myself to trying a new restaurant I’ve been eyeing out for a while perhaps once a month and I’ll save money by researching great recipes and cooking up a storm at home instead.
3 Cancel your gym membership
If you’re not getting to the gym three times a week you might be losing money on the amount you’re spending on your gym membership. Cancel your membership and commit to road running and Park Runs (which are 100% free) for your fitness workouts. If you have Instagram you will have also seen Kayla Itsines’ Bikini Body Workout all over your feed. What not download her training program (approximately R700) and use that workout at home? The cost of downloading the program versus a monthly gym membership will definitely save you money in the long term and you will have the perfect bikini body for your dream holiday too!
4 Have a clean-out
Are there any items of clothing in your wardrobe that are still hanging there with their labels on? When last did you use your iPad? Do you still use your DVD player? If you have things lying around the house that you thought would serve a purpose but all they are really good for is collecting dust, it’s time to let them go. Place your ads on GumTree. Post your items for sale on Facebook. Get that sale! All the proceeds of these sales should go directly into a savings account that you must strict enough not to touch until it’s time to book that holiday!
5 Check that you aren’t paying too much on insurance
When was the last time you checked how much you’re paying for insurance every month? Do you know what competitors are offering? A simple quote can be quick and easy with King Price Insurance and saving money on insurance each month means way more money to save for your ultimate dream holiday!
