When I received the email about Restaurant Week South Africa I came close to jumping up and down with excitement. I’m always looking for new restaurants to try and I love adding to my list of “Best Restaurants in Johannesburg”. Now that I think of it, I should probably do a post featuring all my favourite restaurants – what do you think? Anyway, for those of you unfamiliar with Restaurant Week, a list of some of the best restaurants of South Africa has been published and they are offering specials on their meals this week at ridiculously low prices. I promptly made two reservations without so much as batting an eyelid. First on my Restaurant Week adventure was Punchinello’s Restaurant at Monte Casino.
We arrived to such a lovely presentation of welcome drinks from virgin cocktails to champagne and sangria. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely lovely with high ceilings, a gorgeous chandelier and stunning table settings. The hostess came to greet us once we had settled at our table and told us that, as it was a Sunday, we would be having the Sunday buffet. Once we had seen what all was on offer our eyes nearly popped out of our heads. We had the option of fresh oysters, mussels, a cured meat selection, cheeses, chicken liver pâté in individual pots, breads, preserves, grilled artichokes (absolutely delicious!), salmon and cream cheese bellimis, stuffed brinjal and the list goes on for starters alone! We had the most wonderful of salad bars to put together a salad of ingredients especially for your individual taste. We then had the option of a full pork/beef/chicken roast with yorkshire puddings (yum!), roast veggies and gravy. Lastly was the dessert bar that had the ability to satisfy every sweet tooth in the building. From miniature cheese cakes, milk tarts, black forest and coffee cakes, swiss roll and ice cream I could have squealed with delight!
By the time we had finished we rolled home and had to have a nap following our food coma. Full satisfied and content as could be I was so glad to have stumbled upon Punchinello’s Sunday buffet. If you have never been I highly recommend trying it out for yourself. I also recommend having a look at Restaurant Week South Africa’s website and making a reservation for yourself if you’re a foodie like myself. I get so excited over these kinds of things.

Exciting! I love trying new restaurants as well, though I actually never go to LA’s restaurant week for some reason.

As far as I know this is the first time they’ve done Restaurant Week in South Africa so I’m pretty sure they’ve taken the idea from LA’s restaurant week. I think it’s such a great idea! Thanks so much for reading, Whitney 🙂 Have a great weekend! x
