Oh my gosh you guys, I am so excited to write this post. It is now 6 months until our wedding! Everything seems to be coming together so it was time I gave you a Wedding Planning Update III! If you’ve missed the previous two you have read the first one here and the second one here. At the beginning of the month, we both had some time off and were able to take a trip down to Cape Town to do a whole bunch of wedding planning and we had the absolute best time! Here’s a little update on where we are with all the planning so far.
MENU
First stop on our wedding planning trip was to meet with the caterers in Stellenbosch to do our food tasting. We had already decided on our menu so it was now time to make any required changes we felt necessary during the tasting. We tried out our Harvest Table, canapes, two starters, three main courses and a selection of desserts. I don’t quite know how we managed to eat through all that food! We did make a few changes to our menu so I’d definitely recommend a food tasting if you’re planning a wedding of your own.
We also did our cake tasting on this trip. We were asked to pick 4 flavours so we picked Turkish Delight, cappuccino, caramel and carrot cake. We already knew what we were after, though, and without any reservation we picked a good old carrot cake.
VISITING THE CHURCH
We met with the priest who will be marrying us and had a tour of the church. The priest is pretty hilarious and started teasing me within seconds of meeting us so, needless to say, Ryan loves him! We’re so glad we were able to meet him. The church is so quaint and lovely and it was just wonderful to walk through the church that we will be getting married it!
FLOWERS & TABLE SETTINGS
I’ve decided to go with all white flowers that will be arranged per type of flower i.e. only roses will grouped together in a single vase, tullips will be grouped in a separate vase, hydrangeas in another separate vase, etc. Our vases will be crystal and we will have crystal underplates (my American bridesmaid says these are called “chargers” in the US for anyone reading from there). We will then have white crockery, white table cloths and napkins and I still need to decide on cutlery. I also was asked to decide on how the napkins are tied which is something I’ve never thought of before so if you have any ideas for me, please let me know. We will also be having lots of candles on the table for beautiful dinner-time ambience. I’m still not entirely sure what to do about bouquets. Any suggestions?
WHAT’S LEFT TO DO?
While most things are now taken care of, there’s still a number of important tasks that I still need to tick off my to-do list. The first two being: (i) booking hair and makeup artists; and (ii) securring the DJ. My bridesmaids’ dresses are being made next month which is delightful. Ryan and his groomsmen need to go be fitted for their tuxedos.
I need to start looking for shoes to wear with my wedding dress. I also need to start thinking about what to use for my “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue”. I suppose I also need to start looking for dance instructors for our first dance but I think that wait a few more months.
I joined my sister and bridesmaids for a potential bridal shower venue walk-through but I have been cut off from all the planning from then onwards so I have no idea what all they’re planning but I’m quite excited to see it all come together.
I have included our Wedding Planning Vlog below so if you’re curious to see what we’ve been doing you can take a better look there! I hope you’ve enjoyed my Wedding Planning Update III! Please let me know if you have any tips for me now that we’re 6 months away from the wedding day. Is there anything else I should be doing that I hadn’t thought of? I absolutely love all the wedding tips I’ve been receiving from you both in the comments and on my Instagram. It’s been so helpful!!!
