Hi everyone! Grab yourself a cup of hot tea and let’s have a little catch-up session. The world has become a crazy place lately and it’s so interesting seeing how our lives have changed so I thought I’d check-in and see how you’re all doing.
COVID-19 has really thrown us all a curveball and we’re all doing the very best we can in the situation. While almost everyone is back at work, I’m aware that there are still a number of people that aren’t yet able to and I’m thinking of you. I’ve spoken to so many of you on Instagram over the last few months while we’ve been navigating this unchartered territory and discovered that so many of you are healthcare workers and I truly applaud you all for your hard work and dedication. I’ve also learnt that there are many teachers that read this blog and I’d like to make special mention of you too. With a disrupted school year, you have a challenging task ahead, but our teachers remain the backbone of our community and I’d like to applaud you for making the best of a difficult situation too.
I have left my house for very little other than groceries over the past few months. I’m an introvert at heart and I have many hobbies that fill my time so being at home has probably been easier for me that it has most people. That being said, I miss sitting with my friends and family over lunch/dinner/coffee/wine so, so much!!!
While things may have opened up again I’ll continue to stay at home until after things start calming down. Until then, I’ve taught myself to do gel manicures which is phenomenal! I think I’ll end up saving so much money thanks to this new skill and I think it’s such a time saver to be able to do it at home. I’ve also been doing lots of reading (find my recommendations in this post and this post). Speaking of which, I was thinking about creating a Halloween reading challenge later this year. I know many of you love to read and thought this could be quite a fun thing to do together. What do you think?
Last week I asked whether you’d like me to do a quick Q&A so let’s jump into those questions:
1. Do you have an exercise routine? If so, what exercises are you doing during lockdown?
Yes, I do! It’s so good for my mind as well as my body. We’ve converted a spare room into a gym which has been incredibly helpful. I posted my list of highly recommended at-home workouts in this post. I’ve been doing Pamela Reif’s workouts consistently (we’re currently on week 18) and I love to incorporate yoga on my “rest” days. I’ve also been doing daily dog walks that are about 30 mins long which helps so much when your job requires you to sit at a desk all day.
2. Career!
I’m an attorney. I did my articles at a large firm and stayed on as an associate. I left practice a few years ago and now I’m an in-house commercial legal advisor for a bank. I have a masters degree in International Law and I’m actually contemplating going back to university to complete my doctorate next year.
3. What’s your best investment piece?
Good quality shoes! You can compromise on clothing if necessary, but when it comes to shoes, you need them to be comfortable and well made, even if that means I higher price point. I’ve made the mistake of buying poorly made shoes so many times. Nowadays, I have a smaller shoe collection but they’re all well made, supportive and they’ll last me years before I need to replace them.
4. What are the wardrobe staples that you wear over and over again?
A crisp white shirt is essential for me. It’s so versatile and it looks so chic with everything from jeans to a midi skirt. I adore a neutral handbag and because my wardrobe is very light, a neutral handbag is so easy to wear with absolutely any outfit. A midi skirt is another staple for me because you can wear them throughout the year and they look so classy however you style them! When it comes to the weekend, I always need a great pair of white jeans. At the moment, I actually only own white jeans and I think it’ll stay that way for a while.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this catch-up and Q&A post. If you’ve got any other questions and comments, please leave them in the comment section down below.
