Hi my lovelies! So it’s Valentine’s Day this coming Sunday as I’m sure you already know. By now you’ve probably been bombarded with about 250 Valentine’s Day adverts making you think it’s nothing more than a marketing tactic. I’m going back to the root of spreading the love for Valentine’s Day and appreciating all those special people in my life. My family and I have already swapped small little gifts to each other (I usually make handmade, crafted sentimental little gifts for them). My friends and I often swap small little gifts too – a fortune cookie or a Sweetie Pie usually does the trick. It’s just a simple reminder to those that we love that we really do appreciate them being in our lives. Ryan and I will be celebrating with a picnic by the lake on the day which I’m really excited about. We even found watermelon cut in to hearts for our picnic!
Today I wanted to share the love with you wonderful girls too. You make me so happy and my blog would be nothing if I didn’t have you so thank you for being a part of my life and my journey. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had my personal love affair with Valentine’s Day. Every year on February 14th, with enthusiasm, I watched my very-romantic father bring my mother a large velvet heart-shaped box filled with chocolates that he picked up at the shops. My father always remembered to bring a miniature version of the same for me. I always knew on that day that I was special and that I was loved. It was a tradition that I remember all the way back to when I was about four years old. Regardless of my relationship status, as a hopeful romantic, Valentine’s was and still is a day that I cherish. I love Valentines day for all the soppy things, I love getting flowers and chocolate and hubby doesn’t give me a card, he writes me a letter, now my hubby isn’t romantic at all, so him sitting down and writing me that letter means so much. It is just a day to remind us that we are blessed with all the love we receive from each other and from others like our family and friends, and definitely reminds me that I should be thankful each day for having love in my life!

I am a nail polish fanatic, but for some reason I have never tried these yet. I’ve got literally everything else, so would be an awesome win for me!
I know people say valentines day is so commercial and and and…. I have 3 kids (one being only 5 months old), and to find time to be romantic, well the time just doesn’t exist. So I love that on valentines day, we pray somebody will offer to baby sit the kids, and we make the time to do a date night, or date breakfast (and nap the rest of the day away….bliss….lol). So even if we have no date nights for the year, I know on the 13th or 14th we will make an effort to do a date night. he he.

What I love the most about Valentine’s Day is that even though I am reminded everyday by my fiancé of his love for me and I do the same for him, it would be awesome to celebrate the day with millions upon millions of people who declare their love for each other. I Love Valentines Day because it’s an opportunity to tell people you love that you love them, however that love looks or feels. It feels good to be told that you’re valued. Even if you’re not comfortable with the word “love,” just saying “Hey friend, you did [xyz things] for me, and I just want you to know how much I appreciated that” can go a long way for your relationships. Valentines Day is an opportunity to share really great food with someone whose company you truly enjoy is such an amazing bonding experience. Eating with people we love is such a deeply-ingrained human pleasure that it shows up as a ritual in pretty much every religion and culture. I love everything about valentine. We get to be creative in so many ways. Whether it romantic, picnic date or breakfast in bed. It always nice to celebrate valentines with your partner and it so nice to see all the bright colors out there and all the gift.
