Lately I’ve been thinking about what all blogging involves, the amount of energy and sleepless nights it steals from me, the way I’m constantly looking for inspiration and looking in all directions for it. Then I thought about what blogs actually portray: beautiful pictures, stylish outfits, glamorous hair and make up and an almost Stepford Wives kind of approach to life. Today I thought I’d like to correct that misnomer. At the same time I thought we could all laugh at what really happens behind the scenes.
Something my blog might not portray about me is that I’m actually a serious home body, quite introverted and my favourite outfit hands down is pajamas and slippers. My room is generally messy even though I try my hardest to be a neat person. My hair started going grey at 22 and that sucks completely. My feet turn really red if I’ve been standing in heels too long so that’s why I don’t often post pictures of my shoes in isolation. I get the occasional pimple around the time of the month – hormones will get the better of you no matter what fancy skin products you have.
Not everything you see on a blog reflects the true state of affairs behind the scenes. For one, I have a really cool lens on my camera that can make the picture look better than the reality. That being said I studied law and not photography so I’m still figuring out how to use it properly. Often my pictures come out over exposed or with huge shadows for that reason, but hey, that’s what Photoshop is for. Sometimes my shoes are so painful that I only put them on right before I take photos and take them off immediately afterwards. Wind often blows my hair in my face and gets stuck on my lipgloss. I feel super awkward when people drive by or walk past while I’m taking pictures. Sometimes I plan an outfit days in advance, do my makeup, my hair, pick a location for the photos, take the photos, come home and delete all of them because I was having an “ugly” day. Once I actually felt like I was having a good day; I was dressed and had a gorgeous location. We were about to shoot some pictures and a bird pooped all over me.
I just wanted to share this with you so you can see that blogging is not always as glamorous as it seems. It’s often the opposite. I hope that my blog is an online escape that you can quickly hop on to for 2 minutes at work/on your phone and just have a moment of inspiration and then carry on with you daily life. Please don’t think, however, that every day is as good as it looks ;).

Thanks for sharing this! I wanted to do a similar post in the next few weeks. It makes me feel better that someone as amazing as you has their not-so-perfect moments. Loved this post!

Thanks for sharing. A few things I didn’t know about you. 🙂 Also, people need to realise that blogging isn’t glam. I’m glad you showed that side. xx
Love your honesty.
Love the simplicity of your blog.

Loved this post!
I have finally gotten over that awkward feeling when people drive by (or worse walk by) and I shooting, okay maybe I still cringe a little bit. Also the worst is labels that are visible or those thing straps or a thread that is hanging out on an otherwise perfect shot.
p.s Which lens do you have on your camera?
Or when you realise you had hair sticking upright throughout all the pictures… Yes the label/strap is sticking out of that picture in the white jumpsuit. Such a pain!!!
I use a 50mm and I love it! Definitely recommend it.
So much enjoyed reading this post. I always wondered about people staring or byspassers when you take pics. Your images always looks really good though! #thumbsup People always stare and that can be awkward. But hey! you are doing it for all your fans out there who find your blog very inspirational. I love the denim shirt and mini skirt outfit, that rocks!! You have a great figure for any look!
