Isadora James said that “a sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life.” If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you will have seen my sister, Jasmine, comes up time and time again. Here are the 5 reasons why I’m glad to have a sister.
I’ll always have a best friend
Since we were very young, we’ve always been each other’s best friends but it’s always run deeper than that. Through thick and thin we’ve stuck like glue to one another. I remember quite vividly being called out of class because my sister was crying and the school new to send for me to comfort her. Truth be told, she’s probably comforted me a lot more than I’ve comforted her throughout the years but the moral of the story is that, no matter what, we’re always there for one another.
After moving out of home, one thing I missed most was the time we shared at the end of each day simply sitting on the couch in her room, talking about the day. Talking to your sister is sometimes all the therapy you need. She makes me so happy it’s unreal. There is no one more fiercely protective of me. She is so easily capable of making me laugh until my belly aches. She knows she can rely on me and, similarly, I know that I can count on her.
30 Second Dance Parties
One thing we love to do together is a break it down. Not in the club but in the kitchen. In our pyjamas. Occasionally while wearing sunglasses. Casual. If one of us starts moving, we can’t really help it. It’s pretty hysterical – or at least we think so. I don’t think we have Broadway on our horizon.
Had it not been for Jasmine – I wouldn’t have found Ryan
So here’s a funny piece of info for you: the only reason that Ryan and I ended up together was that his cousin was captivated by Jasmine and ended up chatting to her for so long that I took a seat, unbeknown to me, next to Ryan. He started talking to me and the rest is history really. Ryan was at the boy’s school of our girl’s school and we had had many occasions together and so many mutual friends but the two of us had actually never spoken until that day. Ryan and I had our first date the very next day which progressed from meeting for coffee to staying for dinner because we found we had so much to talk about. We’ve been inseparable ever since and that was over 5 years ago.
Martha Stewart can relax, we’ve got every occasion covered
My sister and I love to cook. We also love an occasion. We generally have Pinterest boards for every occasion we’re hosting which begin the planning process months in advance. From decor to place settings, dress code and the menu too, we love absolutely every detail involved in planning something special. We firmly believe that every little detail of your life should be celebrated. To us, there’s nothing more important than sharing life’s wonderful occasions together.
We love to work together
I’m sure you’ve noticed that Jasmine has appeared in a number of my posts and videos. You would have seen that she was in two of my Vlogmas videos last year (here and here) and it was actually her idea. I love that she pops in and out of my content in a cameo role. Jasmine has also had a part to play in the Arum Lilea Collection. I’ve called her so many times for her input on fabric choices and styles, etc and she’s also made a fantastic model. It’s always so much fun to work together and I think you can expect to see a lot more of her here too.
Needless to say, when I saw these pictures of us in the Spring Blossom Skirt from the Arum Lilea Collection, I knew that I had to put a light-hearted little post together dedicated to the 5 reasons why I’m glad to have a sister. I’d honestly be quite lost without her. It’s unbelievable how deep this relationship runs but it’s truly quite magical. I’d go so far as to say it is a divine gift. Let me know if you have any ideas for a video we could put together this coming Vlogmas and I’ll rope her into it!
