As you know, Ryan knelt down on one knee and asked me to marry him towards the end of last year. If you missed it, you can read our engagement story here. This past Saturday we celebrated our love for each other together with our nearest and dearest at our engagement party at the Royal Johannesburg Golf Course.
Our engagement party was a really intimate affair with just over 30 of our family and friends. On the evening, I was completely awestruck as I looked around the room to find that so many different people can be joined together in a room purely because two people fell in love.
If you’re newly engaged and wondering whether to plan an engagement party, I’d say it’s definitely worth doing. One of the things I thought most important about having an engagement party was giving the extended families an opportunity to meet one another before our big day. Our friends were also quite interested to piece together the family tree on both our sides.
That aside, occasions like these are always so meaningful to me because the always create such cherished memories and the families tend to talk about them for years to come. To sit in a room that is filled with the ones we love most gave me an overwhelming sense of peace and happiness.
My dad said such a lovely speech about how it was so wonderful to see two people so excited to take the next step in their journey together which I hope I never forget. It’s so special to see how excited he is for our next chapter which is all the validation a girl could ask for.
The party flew by though! From arranging with the florist for our tablescape to tying hessian on to the chairs with my family, to picking up my , to a delay at the jeweler because he wanted to make my ring sparkle like the sun for the party and then to the party itself, I can’t believe how quickly the day went.
If Saturday was anything to go by, I can only imagine how quickly the wedding day must go. I woke up on Monday wondering if I’d spent enough time talking to everyone and hoping I had. My dad commented on the same. He actually even said he was sad that this weekend was already over because he had really enjoyed every minute of the celebrations.
While our engagement party may be over, we are still coasting on the joy of this stage in our lives. From here, we’ll be progressing to the prepping and planning ahead of our wedding day which is another moment in time that I’m looking forward to capturing. If you haven’t already read our wedding planning update, you can do so here. There are lots of exciting things ahead.
