I’m such a fan of the benefits of reading. I read many genres and for many different reasons. I love literature and beautifully written stories but I also love to learn. In today’s book review, I’m going to be sharing my list of the motivational books that will change your life! If you’re looking for a little inspiration to fire you up to accomplish all those incredible goals you have? This is the list of books that will ignite your passion and lead you to a life of the greatest sense of fulfilment.
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne
Simply put, this book echos the teachings of the law of attraction. It reminds us to check in with our thoughts and words and do a due diligence. Are we constantly annoyed and negative about numerous things whether the news, your job, the government, your neighbours, etc? This may have less to do with our surroundings and more to do with our perspective. This book serves as a perfect reminder for shifting your mindset to the positive. When you look at the world through a positive perspective, it’s incredible how positivity comes flooding back to you. When you’re conscious of what is good around you and the good things that happen to you, life is incredible and it’s really the only way we should be living. Personally, I think that this book lays the foundation for all other books on this list because once you’ve corrected your mindset, you can action the strategies of the other books whether that’s waking up at 5am, tracking your progress, eating a better diet, etc. With a conscious mind and a great strategy, you are bound to head in the direction of success.
Atomic Habits by James Clear
I’ve always been a firm believer that by creating good habits and following them consistently, great things can be achieved and this book is testament to that. It really encourages tracking your habits whatever they may be from spending, saving, working out, reading, practising an instrument, learning a language, working up the corporate ladder, etc. By tracking your progress, you focus your mind on accomplishing all your goals through a systematic approach and you’re able to use the data you’ve collected to improve your “game”. This book can be applied to absolutely any area of your life and it is well worth implementing.
The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy
Similar to the philosophy of Atomic Habits, this book emphasises the fact that consistent hard work pays off in big ways. Think, for example, of two friends that have never exercised before. If one (let’s call him Peter”) begins a moderate workout programme for 1 hour per day and the other (let’s call him “Paul”) continues not to exercise at all. It’s obvious that there will be noticeable changes between the two over a 5 year period. Not only will Peter have improved his physique, but he will also, most likely, have improved his nutrition, be more active with his children and the increased endorphins may mean he is happier than he ever was before he started training. Paul, however, is more likely to have put on weight, may suffer health issues as a result and might live with the resentment of the fact that had he just done a little bit each and every day for 5 years, he could be as fit and as happy as his friend Peter. The principle of doing a little but often is a strong theme of this book whether looking at savings, working on your business, studying, successful relationships, etc. If you’re willing to work at something, you’re bound to see the rewards.
How Not To Die by Michael Greger
This book is a game-changer in terms of giving you a real wakeup call into the way we have been punishing our bodies through poor diet choices. As a medical doctor, the author has conducted scientific studies on nutrition and the way we’ve been self-sabotaging through poor diet choices and misinformation which has ultimately lead to chronic medical issues which could have been completely avoided if we took better care of our nutrition. This book is eye-opening and the results of the studies are draw dropping. I honestly believe that everyone should read this book!
The Path Made Clear by Oprah Winfrey
If you enjoyed Oprah’s Soulful Sundays podcasts as much as I did, you’ll love this book. It contains snippets of the most profound reminders of how we should be living our lives. Practising gratitude is life-changing. Listening to your intuition is never to be underestimated. Allowing yourself to recognise an opportunity when it is presented. These are all extremely important life lessons and Oprah shares passages of the essence of a well-fulfilled life within this treasure of a book. It’s incredibly inspiring and it makes for a beautiful coffee table book for your guests to flick through and feel inspired when they visit your home. It also makes for a very special gift. After having read this book myself, I bought my sister a copy when she was at a bit of a crossroads in her life and she loved it!
If you’re looking for more book recommendations, perhaps my favourite fictional reads, you’ll be very interested in the Arum Lilea Book Club. Read my latest book recommendations here and here. I’d also loved it if you left me your book recommendations, no matter what genre they fall into, in the comment section below. Happy reading!
